New openings round-up

Brewhouse & Kitchen is opening in West Bridgford in Nottingham on Sunday (18 June)—its 17th location in all. It will have room for 550 people across a bar, restaurant and garden areas, and will sell around 50 craft beers and ‘beertails’, plus food including sharing platters and Sunday roasts. A microbrewery will be at the heart of the pub, and beer masterclasses and experiences will be on offer. Brewhouse & Kitchen says it is on track to reach 20 locations by the end of the year. Managing director Simon Bunn said: “We are delighted to welcome Nottingham into the Brewhouse & Kitchen family and to make our mark on the area’s thriving food and drink scene.”

The Botanist, the bar and restaurant concept from the New World Trading Company, will also open in West Bridgford this summer.

Tapas Revolution and Smashburger have both completed openings at the SouthGate development in Bath. It joins brands including Thaikhun, Comptoir Libanais, Absurd Bird, Prezzo and Gourmet Burger Kitchen at the centre, which now includes the fully-let new Little SouthGate restaurant quarter. The signings were made by British Land and Aviva Investors, whose director Simon Green said: “We are pleased to welcome Smashburger and Tapas Revolution to SouthGate. It is great that these brands have chosen Bath as the place to establish their first restaurants in the region.”

The Westgate Oxford has announced the early line-up of brands for its new Westgate Social—a food hall style space with communal seating. They are Mexican concept Benito’s Hat, Indian street food concept Rola Wala, Lebanese restaurant Shawa and Junkyard Golf Club, a mini-golf-and-cocktails format. The Westgate centre is due to open in October, with many casual dining brands already confirmed for elsewhere in the complex.

Smoothie chain Joe and the Juice will open at Baker Street and Eastcheap in London after signing two new leases. It takes the brand close to 30 UK sites as it continues ambitious expansion plans.

Greggs has opened a first ever drive-through concept at the Irlam Gateway service station, close to the M62 and Manchester. Chief executive Roger Whiteside said: “A drive thru offers the ultimate convenience and seemed the logical next step for us to take. This is a first for Greggs and we are excited to trial the concept in Irlam.”

Turtle Bay says it will open its new Plymouth restaurant in September. It is recruiting for the 480 square metre restaurant now. Turtle Bay has also just secured a site in Winchester, according to local media. It is an old retail unit with 4,200 square feet of space.

Made of Dough, a pizza concept that started out as a pop-up in Brixton, has opened a first permanent restaurant in Peckham.

All you can eat buffet group Cosmo is to relaunch is Leeds restaurants in July as a new ‘Cosmo Luxe’ concept. It will have a more upmarket design and higher pricing.

Marston’s has just opened its latest new-build pub—the Dancing Betty at the Dalton Park development in Murton in Durham.

A major new fish concept called Seafood Shack opened in Cardiff on Thursday (15 June). It has a champagne and oyster bar on its first floor, and a restaurant area with 200 covers. The team behind it plan to open Shacks in due course.

A new craft coffee and cocktail bar called Roc & Rye will open in the Spring Gardens building on King Street in Manchester on 6 July.

Granger & Co, the all-day concept run by chef Bill Granger, will open a fourth London site on Pavilion Road in Chelsea on Monday (19 June). It will have space for 100 people over two floors and an outdoor space.

Rosa’s Thai Café has set 5 July for the opening of its latest new restaurant on Seven Dials in Covent Garden. It has taken a 1,500 square feet unit, which will become the brand’s tenth restaurant.

Pret a Manger is opening at Copenhagen airport—its first move into Scandinavia. It is part of a revamp of the food and drink offer at the airport that is also bringing in various local brands.

Levy Restaurants has agreed to a deal to run the catering facilities at London’s Whipsnade Zoo. It will revamp the five cafes there and introduce a concession of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage concept plus a takeaway picnic offer.
